How much can we charge on NSF checks?

Each state and the District of Columbia have different regulations regarding bad checks. The laws dictate the steps you must follow and total amount of service fees, if any are permitted, you can assess. The regulations also establish civil and criminal penalties that depend on the amounts owed. For example, Delaware caps service fees at $40, while Massachusetts assigns civil and criminal penalties, but doesn't address service fees.
